Alling Memorial Golf Club has been established as an official chapter of “The First Tee” program which is an initiative of the World Golf Foundation.
It’s goal is to impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character-development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.
“The First Tee” program has been active in providing free instruction, life skills and equipment to New Haven Junior Golfers. As a result, hundreds of kids have been introduced to the game of golf at Alling Memorial Golf Club.
Alling Memorial golf course is also the home course for five area high schools located in New Haven and East Haven. The course PGA Professional, Larry Thornhill, is available to provide them with free clinics upon request. In addition, Larry Thornhill is also a volunteer for the New Haven Parks and Recreation summer camp each year and participates in the Special Olympics golf programs.
In 2009, Alling Memorial was host to a U.S. Kids Junior Tour golf tournament..
